Namchak Khenpo Ngawang Gelek

Namchak Khenpo was born in Eastern Tibet in 1965. As a young monk, Khenpo studied all aspects of Buddhism, including ritual arts and chanting. In 1985, Khenpo left Tibet and went to Nepal where he met Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and received the Nyingtik Yabzhi empowerments, the transmission of Mipham Rinpoche's collected works, and various other teachings and empowerments. Khenpo then went to Bodhgaya, India and received the Kalachakra empowerment from His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, as well as monastic ordination and bodhisattva vows from His Holiness, Trulshik Rinpoche.

Khenpo then traveled to Mysore, India where he had the good fortune to meet His Holiness, Penor Rinpoche and begin studying at His Holiness’s Nyingma College, Namdrol Ling Shedra. He graduated after nine years as a Do-Ngag Rabjampa, Master of Sutra and Tantra, the highest academic degree. He also engaged in meditation, under His Holiness’s guidance, of the three higher tantric yogas, maha, anu, and ati. Following his training there, he returned to Nepal and taught at Dilgo Khyentse’s Shechen Monastery, and later at Ringo Tulku's monastery in India. In 2004 he was formally enthroned as a Khenpo by His Holiness.

At the request of his eldest brother, Gochen Tulku Rinpoche, Khenpo once again returned to Nepal to receive the entire cycles of the Longchen Nyingtik and Namchak Lineages from Gochen Tulku Rinpoche, and to oversee Gochen Tulku’s activities at Kusum Khandro Ling and Sang-ngag Phurba Ling retreat centers, and Yulokod Jetsun Ling nunnery. There, Khenpo bestows empowerments and teachings, and guides the monks and nuns with his great warmth, knowledge and enthusiasm. Khenpo also regularly travels to the Ewam Centers in Taiwan and Hong Kong where he benefits the many students there with his brilliant teachings and empowerments.

Now, this year, Khenpo has graciously accepted an invitation from Gochen Tulku Rinpoche and Ewam America to teach at Ewam centers in the United States.
