Kunzang Chodron is forty years old. She was born in Riwoche, (Kham region of Tibet). She has never been to school and has been helping with the household work since childhood. When her brother married, Kunsang Choedon and her mother were unable to live with her brother and his wife. She and her mother went to live at her uncle's house. She decided to go for a pilgrimage to Mt. Kailash. She then went to India to get a blessing from H.H. Dalai Lama. After receiving the blessing and with the help of her relatives, she came to Nepal and joined the Turquoise Leaf Nunnery.
