In the northwestern part of the US, Arlee, Montana, a population of only 700 people, is home to the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas as well as Ewam Sang-ngag Ling, our retreat center.  Arlee is located in the western portion of Montana in the beautiful and expansive Jocko Valley, with the Mission Mountain range to its east and surrounded by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal land. To the north is Flathead Lake and River, the west's largest freshwater lake.  The city of Missoula and the Clark Fork River are to the south, and the Jocko River runs just west of the Ewam land.

The hillsides which cradle the land are wooded with a variety of evergreens.  From early spring through summer, native wildflowers and an abundance of traditional medicinal plants are in bloom in the forests and fields.  The hot summers bring thunderstorms which light up the skies, and the cold winter months blow drifts of pristine white snow into the valley, and cover mountain tops.

Driving Directions to Ewam from Missoula:

Take I-90W/MT 200 W about 8 miles to Exit 96 – US-93 N/MT-200 W toward Kalispell. You will reach the town of Arlee in 19 miles. (Unfortunately there is a lot of construction so practice patience.) About 2 miles past the town of Arlee turn right onto White Coyote Road (there will be a green road sign about ½ mile before the turn).  Ewam is about 1 mile on the left, you can’t miss Yum Chenmo in the middle of a big field.  We have two driveways, the first one with prayer flags over it is for the shrine room where we hold practice and teachings and the second driveway is the sangha house where the retreatants stay.

Driving Directions from Kalispell:

Take US-93 S about 88 miles until you come to White Coyote Road on your left.  Start looking for the road about 4 miles after you go through the little town of Ravalli (very little town).  If you have reached the town of Arlee you have gone 2 miles too far.  Ewam is about 1 mile on the left, you can’t miss Yum Chenmo in the middle of a big field.  We have two driveways, the first one with prayer flags over it is for the shrine room where we hold practice and teachings and the second driveway is the sangha house where the retreatants stay.
